I went to hear the Maryland Symphony Orchestra in Hagerstown yesterday afternoon in a concert that featured two Russians (Shostakovich and Tchaikovsky) and a Finn. The highlight of the concert was the playing of 28 year old Nicolas Kendall in the Sibelius Violin Concerto. He seems to love his job and completely gets the music he is playing.
After the Sibelius, he performed an extemporized piece for solo violin with violin figuration and strummed chords in the orchestra that was entertaining. I understand he also composes. Watch out for him.
