Smoking

Yes, I know, smoking is bad, but I always have a nostalgic feeling about it. When I sang in Germany, we had a cantina inside the theater where food and drink were served to the members of the company. The Zurich opera house has a similar facility. Some days, I am not at all sure looking back what caused this to happen, we would sit late in the cantina after a performance drinking and having fun. And occasionally when I was very drunk, I would smoke. Cigarettes and cigars. Since I didn't smoke, it didn't matter which one. I decided cigars were actually much more interesting tasting.

I didn't like the feeling in my throat when I woke up the next morning.

Germany is still resisting the world-wide trend against smoking. In Italy there are groups of people standing around outside buildings smoking, just like here.

We are supposed to feel scandalized by the glamorous look of Scarlett smoking. I have often suspected that smokers were having more fun. I can't justify this opinion.
