ARTS just ran a concert performance with Claudio Abbado of Bryn Terfel singing Wagner's "O du mein holder Abendstern" from Tannhäuser. It was glorious. The man has one of the most beautiful baritone voices ever, and he also appears to be extremely musical.

And yet we continue to hear reports of his impending retirement from opera. It's about a year ago I wrote about this. Maybe he has stage fright. Maybe he doesn't like to be away from home so much. Maybe he isn't getting any support from home for the demands of his career (this seems the most likely reason.) And maybe he is just lazy.

Ho hum.
