To Lip Synch or not to Lip Synch

When the subject of lip synching comes up, it is usually condemned.  How dare they think they can get away with lip synching!  That sort of thing.

So here comes Jonas Kaufmann with an excuse.  Since he cancelled everything else in May, including the Zurich Jonas Kaufmann Gala, how is it that he sings in Munich for the Champions League final?  (His team lost.)  Apparently there was a lot of complaining about this.  It turns out his performance was pre-recorded.  He was lip synching.  Should we be relieved or irate?

neither nor, it's simply a fact of life which was openly communicated BEFORE the event happened : http://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/news/newsid=1799190.html there is no big secret here , no cover up or anything. These events are organised in advance and there is always a recording made, Placido sang the other day in Madrid, lipsynched to as he himself said so in the microphone before the song was played out. What was the UEFA supposed to do? Drop the whole thing, have somebody else show up? I just find the whole discussion slightly absurd in this case and it's incredible the phantasy people have in making up stories and rumour and badmouthing a singer for no reason at all. He is unwell, ie unable to sing, npo big secret or anything. Shit happens to everyone, singers too. Sigh...

One should notice that it would be extremely silly to cancel a performance where one was lip synching. People get wildly emotional over trivialities. The important thing is for Jonas to get well.

And I would only have brought it up because it was absurd.

I know ;-) i was just having a rant about the absuridity of it all and the ridiculous proportions it's been getting in the press today :-) I'm cooler now, but feel sad for Jonas to have to deal with it all on top of being unwell and surely feeling beyond frustrated for not being able to performed :-( Surely it's worse for him than anyone else to be unwell.. absurd indeed :-) But maybe it's not a bad time to remind people what a singing job entails and what risks it comes with and so on. I find it particularily absurd that people wouldn;t want to go to work if they felt ill but they want him to do it! sorry i'm off on a rant again ;-))) i'll shut up now :-)

My favorite is when Yo Yo Ma was condemned for bow synching. And pretty badly.
