Plaisir d'amour

There are a couple of nice versions on YouTube of "Plaisir d'amour," the most famous French melodie. It established an entire genre in the nineteenth century.

Janet Baker's version is back.

Judi Dench sang it on stage in Hay Fever. Angela Gheorghiu sang it in Italian in a souped up version in her La Scala recital, but the simple version is best.

"The pleasures of love are for a moment. The pain of love lasts a lifetime."
