Here is a blog claiming that John Adams, together with John Luther Adams, whoever he is, is writing an opera with the life of Sarah Palin as its theme. Well.
Pro:
The main character is female. This represents progress for Adams.
I'm sure the libretto would be pretty easy to write.
Con:
I feel extremely dubious about the possibility of immortalizing the already far too well known Palin.
For me this would only work as a comedy. Then I would be good with it. Preferably slapstick.

Thanks for sharing this! Very amusing...
Of course the last part is actually true! The Sarah Palin /Joe Biden opera exists and is going to recorded for a CD soon. They are fundraising for it and have a video clip here:

I don't think there's any danger of immortality from this, but it's funny.
The Twittersphere reveals that the post you've linked to is a magnificent April Fool's effort by the author, Olivia Giovetti. If you go to Twitter and search the hashtag #adamsandadamsopera (which you should be able to see without a Twitter login, I think) you'll be able to see the fun opera nerds have been having with the idea. :)
Oops.
You know the least plausible part of this story is that John Adams would collaborate with anyone.
This was posted by the San Francisco Opera. I thought I could trust them.
One can trust no one on April 1, no one! You could pen a despairing aria about it. Another entry for the pros column, though: Giovetti speculated about Joyce DiDonato taking the role of Hilary, to which DiDonato responded that she'd rather sing Bill en travesti.
Now that would make an opera! I would insist that Palin was left out, though. A Monica opera? Sounds more like Glass.
John Luther Adams is an Alaskan composer, so that would have lent the proceedings an air of authenticity. Also a vast array of noise-making materials. Which is sort of what the GOP is these days.
